Vitamins and Minerals

Postby Sandy63 on Wed Jan 27, 2010 2:40 pm

I wondered what vitamin supplements other Kidney Cancer patients are taking.
My sister who sadly has an Ocular Melanoma which has spread to her liver has been advised by Professor Dalgeish at St Thomas' Hospital to take Green Tea Extract capsules, high dose Vitamin A and Bromelain (an enzyme from the root of pineapple).
It is confusing to hear all the differing stories so I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thanks.

Hello Sandy,
I personally take a multi vitamin, fish oils and zinc. I checked with my onc about these as I have been taking them for some years and I was told although they couldn't guarantee they would help they certainly wouldn't do me any harm. I feel better taking them as when I miss them out for a few days I do feel tired and generally low.

I believe other posts have been placed on this subject, including on the kcuk website and as you say it is a good idea to research as much as you can to get a general view on different supplements.

At the cancer unit I attend they also offer complimentary therapies, including homeopathy and vitamin supplement advice, together with dieticians, so it may be a good idea to enquire if this is available at your own hospitals.
