This is the Department of Health (DoH) guidance issued to PCTs (England) and LHBs (Wales and Scotland) to inform the procedures to be adopted when they receive funding applications for drugs which have not yet had a formal appraisal or recommendation from NICE. If you are applying for NHS funding in Wales or Scotland then you will need to obtain the additional guidance notes from the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) which will apply in Wales and from the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) which will apply in Scotland.

This is a consultation document issued to all PCTs and Acute Trusts ( Hospitals) by the Department of Health (DoH) as a sign of intent. They intend that all NHS organisations, including General Practitioners should, as a matter of course, copy in the patient (at the patient’s request) on all correspondence relating to that patient and his or her medical records. If your consultant or PCT or GP is reluctant to copy you in on correspondence relating to your care, please show them this guidance note.
