Since 2006 Julia Black and Rose Woodward (both cancer patients themselves) have provided a safety net for kidney cancer patients, their families and carers who may need help and support . We aim to provide a bridge between the medical team at your Hospital and the reality of living, day by day, with a diagnosis of kidney cancer. Much of our time is spent guiding patients through the nightmare process of applying for NHS funding for kidney cancer drugs; offering guidance and advice and even appearing at appeal panels to provide personal advocacy for patients denied NHS funding for their kidney cancer treatment.
On this website you will find standard letters and advice to guide you through this process. We will also provide the evidence dossier necessary for you to put forward the best possible case to your local health authority or the Cancer Drugs Fund to secure NHS funding for the treatment your consultant oncologist wants to prescribe for you. This evidence dossier will be prepared according to your particular individual situation; please email us for further details.
This website is the result of that work and our mission to provide the best information and support to our fellow cancer patients. Many patients and families have told us how much it meant to them to actually talk to someone who really understood how they felt. When we put patients in contact with each other they tell us how much stronger they felt knowing they were not alone...and this is why the Kidney Cancer Support Network and this website came into being.
The Kidney Cancer Support Network is not a formal charity and nor do we want to be, we are a patient led, patient centred group of patients who just want to help each other . Rose and Julia continue to do this work for anyone who asks for their help. We are independent and we do not take funding, favours or grants from any Pharmaceutical Companies.
We do not charge any sort of membership fee or subscription to join the Kidney Cancer Support Network. We simply want all Kidney Cancer patients to have the access to help, support and friendship. If you can help us do this in any capacity, answering forum posts or fundraising or simply sharing your story to help others, then please make contact with us.
We will also continue to work very closely with all the other kidney cancer groups and organisations so that we can make sure kidney cancer patients in the UK have the best support network of contacts and information available. Please help raise us raise awareness of kidney cancer and help with research into this devastating disease.
Please let us know if we can help in any way. Email Rose or Julia
Very best wishes from
